Bethayres Tavern is located next to the Bethyares Station which was built for the newly opened North Pennsylvania Railroad in 1876.
The station was named after Elizabeth Ayers, who had been born in the original house on the Ayres' farm, and had married her neighbor James Comly. Their son Henry, who was one of the founders of the railroad and a director, chose his mother's name for the station.

The tavern is a victorian home built around 1890. A few years later it became Hornung's Bar and Restaurant. In 1937 it was named Bethayres Tavern.
